ArtistCareer
ArtistCareer is an artist development initiative presented by the Australian Business Arts Foundation (AbaF) and the National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA). The initiative provides a breadth of professional, business and network development resources and opportunities for visual arts practitioners.
Ripe Online, leaders in online strategy and community building, were engaged to produce a website that would be the first point of call
for artists seeking resources and opportunities to assist their
development.
surfacemedia was
then engaged by RipeOnline to create the Artist Career identity and to design the Artist Career website interface and apply the new look and
feel across all functional elements.
Solution
The conceptual and technical direction taken for Artist Career were driven by the notion of ‘help me help you’. It was important for the website to encourage a sense of community amongst its users by providing them with the tools and technologies to exchange ideas and resources. Web 2.0 technologies were integrated throughout the site to meet this requirement. These included podcasts and user-managed profile pages.
Being an artist’s resource centre, it was important for the design and construction of the site to be well organised and accessible, while still remaining true to the program’s artistic nature. surfacemedia designed a user interface and identity that incorporates both of these qualities.
An extensive Help/FAQ system has been built into the site enabling users to find information quickly and easily. The categorised and meticulously ordered system is easy to navigate and being indexed by Google means its content be found just as easily through a search engine.
The implemented CMS is scalable and adaptable to grow and continue developing as Artist Career’s services and offerings grow.
