AMES
AMES is the largest provider of English language and Settlement services in Victoria, in addition to being a major supplier of specialist employment and training services in Melbourne. AMES provides an extensive range of adult education, training and employment programs to a diverse client community.
Surface Media was first engaged in 2008 to conduct a full functional audit of the old website and then subsequently to design and develop the new AMES corporate website and extranet. Since then our team have been working with AMES to deliver additional functionality and further project websites as required.
Solution
Once again working with a fixed budget and a certain degree of fuzziness around the technical scope, we proposed that an initial research and discovery phase should be carried out to gain a deeper understanding of the technical requirements. A more accurate development quote would then be provided at the conclusion of this initial phase.
Surface Media worked with AMES to thoroughly research AMES’s business objectives, technical requirements and target audience. This involved an exhaustive website audit, Business Requirements & Objectives workshops and a Persona Workshop to gather user research. We then developed a Content Strategy for AMES to point them in the right direction to creating engaging and compelling content for their website. This all formed the basis for the information architecture and visual design and technical development for the website.
The result was a website design that clearly spoke to each unique set of website users through the use of homepage content tabs. This allows users to click on the tab that matches their profile to change the body content on the homepage to content that contains calls to action and key messages that are specifically relevant to them.
The AMES website also includes eCommerce functionality to allow users to browse the AMES bookshop and purchase resources online. We are currently working on a new media player for the website which will be integrated in coming weeks.
We also recently designed and delivered the AMES English website aimed at international students who are seeking to study English in Australia.
