Healthy Start is a national practice network to support children of mothers and fathers with learning difficulty by supporting the practitioners who work with these families. Healthy Start is a joint initiative between the Parenting Research Centre (PRC) and the University of Sydney.
Having worked with Surface Media on a number of other websites, PRC asked us to design and build a website that would help to promote the network and foster online communication and knowledge exchange between practitioners.
Surface Media met with the PRC project stakeholders to conduct a discovery session with the aim of identifying the website requirements and exploring the options for potential solutions.
A major requirement was the integration of social media tools that would allow practitioners to join and contribute to an online network. An existing online community tool, Ning, was used as the platform for the network and allows practitioners to sign-up and login to contribute to forums, register to attend events, join groups, get in touch with other members and more.
Surface Media ‘skinned’ the Ning network with the same design as the Healthy Start website pages and integrated the network so that it appears to sit within the website and allows users to easily navigate from the website to the network and back again.
The website also includes a document manager which allows users to search the library of resources or browse by category.
Both the Healthy Start network and website can be managed and maintained by PRC.
