Small Business Mentoring Service
SBMS is an incorporated not-for-profit association with the main goal of putting small business in touch with mentors in their area of business.
SBMS required a website that would allow users to easily search for a mentor that matches their profile and to book a mentor to deliver specific programs to help them succeed in business.
Solution
Surface Media worked extensively with SBMS to fully understand the needs of small business owners, business mentors, the DIIIRD and Victorian Business Centres, all of whom are connected via the SBMS website. This was no small task.
By developing simple interactive prototypes of the key areas of functionality, the SBMS team were able to carry out low cost usability testing to feed back into the design process.
Insights into user requirements gained in the discovery phase prompted the inclusion of many useful features such as a program finder, which guides users through the process of finding the program that best suits the needs of their business and then matches them with mentors with the required skills and experience.
The website was also built with a secure mentors’ area that allows mentors to log in to the website to update their own profile information and CVs.
In addition, many of SBMS’s back-office administrative tasks are automated by the solution.
